Pet Send Off to Rainbow Bridge

A gentle goodbye: honouring your pet’s final journey

Saying goodbye to a cherished pet is never easy. For most families, it marks the end of a deeply emotional chapter. For Nambour-based nurse and animal energy therapist Katie Lone, her own experience of pet loss became the inspiration behind Pet Send Off to Rainbow Bridge—a dedicated end-of-life service for pets that offers not only cremation but comfort, dignity and emotional support during one of life’s most difficult moments.

“When my second dog passed away, the sadness lingered longer than I expected,” Katie says. “I knew I had something to offer others going through the same heartache. That’s when I decided to start this service” but I still couldn’t bring myself to do it until my third dog died – that pushed me over the edge to begin the business the very next day.

Cremation with care

Katie, along with her daughter Carly, a trained veterinary nurse, offers individual cremations for pets throughout the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, and Gympie. Each pet is treated with the utmost respect and is cremated individually, ensuring their ashes are not mixed with others.

“We treat every pet as if they were our own,” says Katie. “They’re family, and they deserve to be honoured in a way that reflects their place in our hearts.”

A range of packages are available to suit different budgets, from simple scatter pouches to keepsake packages that include pottery urns, photo frames, or keepsake jewellery. All packages come with a paw print, a tuft of fur, a scented aromatherapy candle, and a small farewell gift.

“We want each family to feel that their pet’s life was celebrated and remembered properly,” Katie says. “Even the smallest touches can make all the difference.”

Support for pet and parent

What sets Pet Send Off to Rainbow Bridge apart is its focus on emotional care for both pets and their humans. Energy therapy sessions including use of essential oils are available to help relieve stress and anxiety in pets throughout any time of their life but also nearing the end of life, as well as support for pet parents coping with grief.

“We work with both physiological and emotional responses,” Katie explains. “Our energy treatments offer deep relaxation, which benefits pets especially in their twilight years and helps people cope with the sadness of letting go.”

Katie and Carly also offer a doula-style presence during euthanasia, either at home or at a vet clinic. “It’s about making the process less clinical and more peaceful,” Katie says. “We help create a calm and respectful environment during those final moments.”

Energy therapy is also available for pets recovering from illness or surgery, or those living with anxiety or chronic pain. These sessions aim to improve the animal’s quality of life and help the owner feel more connected to their pet during vulnerable times. Energy therapy can also be used prior to competition to help prepare the pet mentally for their competition ritual.

Gentle, personal and always available

With 24/7 availability and a personal, family-run approach, Pet Send Off to Rainbow Bridge continues to grow through word-of-mouth and heartfelt recommendations.

“Our goal is to ease the burden of loss,” Katie says. “We’re here to walk beside people through their grief, to honour their pets, and to provide peace of mind that everything was done with love.”

For families looking for a kind and personalised farewell for their furbaby, Katie and Carly offer a service grounded in empathy, comfort, and care.
